I’m still here. I don’t break easily, links are strong.
The rain and snow try to rust me thin, but I’m still here.
Children walk and jump and swing on me, and that really brightens me up. All the rusted iron dust doesn’t deter them.
I am steady, a constant in their otherwise changing world. I’ve been here before their birth and will remain long after their death.

I just finished watching this movie and now realize what it means when my daughter, husband and kids are all eating dinner, and someone yells, “chips, where are my chips?” Being a blended family in more ways than one, this is an appropriate term for us, with three adopted children, the movie is spot on. One adopted at two months, one at four and one at six, it has been a wild ride at times, but here we are, now ages 16, 13 and 21 and all survived, so far….just kidding. I joke because it can be tougher than you imagine and humor does help. As their grandmother, I could tell stories…maybe later. In the meantime give this movie a look and let me know what you think. Bonus is a behind the scenes video with the real family.

“Definitely a catastrophe in the making,” Elmer stated. “Yup, when all that fulgerant light started to blind them, it was a nobrainer.”
“Pardon me, gentlemen, but did you see what happened here?” The young reporter shoved the microphone into the policemen’s faces.
“Well some of it. You see when the capacity of that rigid fiberglass started to bend from the pressure inside the flux capacitor, I think the whole thing just blew! We warned ’em, didn’t we Jake?”
“Yessir. But those capricious know-it-alls couldn’t lower themselves to realize the danger we already thought of.”
“Now look at all this crunched up glass and dirt, blowing around. It don’t take a shrink to realize these guys flipped out, nosiree.”
The reporter pressed on. “Is that your professional opinion?”
“C’mon, Jake, let’s get some lunch.”

Joe(1): “Well that didn’t work!”
Joe(2): “I’m surprised you can even speak after being done in by a human–why did we even try to believe we could help?”
Joe(3): “I thought she was just a woman who needed help, not a vampire. Besides, who are you to talk, you fell for her story, too.”
“It was her vulnerability. I never suspected she was not a real live person. She was sweet and charming. I thought she needed our help.”
“We’re just a bunch of idiots, robots yes, but idiots. Now our brains are actually fried, certainly, and who knew she wasn’t affected by electricity?”
“Possibly the way she brandished that evil smile when she grabbed your arm and put it in the light socket?”
“Clueless idiots, all of us!”
“At least we’re still functioning! Once the current is totally blown, we can reset.”
Joe(1): “Okay, since I’m the biggest, have the most brain capacity, I need to point out a couple of things. This vulnerability you speak of, what were you thinking? She couldn’t bite us, really, and we can’t hurt her, so need I illustrate the point any further?”
Joe(2): “That we’re just machines who desperately want to be human?”
Joe(3): “That we want to feel love like a human?”
“Exactly.”

“She said it was on the east coast, yup, right here, I found it!” Joe was excited as he was planning a trip to meet his dreamed of lady. At least he thought she might be; he needed to meet her in person to see. Joe’s sister Helen wasn’t so sure as he seemed to be, and thought he might be scammed.
Joe had been fooling around on the Internet looking at photos on the Fab50 site. He had been single for too long and now felt he needed companionship in his life. Meeting the guys for drinks and watching ball games just wasn’t enough anymore. Joe had dated a few women he liked but was never in love.
On the dating site he saw a woman who stirred new feelings in him and he was determined to meet her in person. He was looking forward to the road trip and had a perfectly restored Mustang for the ride. His sister was worried about him, offered to join him, but his answer was no. “Who wants your sister along on a date?” Joe told her but it didn’t quell her thoughts.
Sadie was also a lonely fifty-something and thought Joe looked interesting on the site, and also wanted a worthy mate to spend the rest of her life. Could Joe be the one she had been looking for, possibly a soulmate? Sadie often wondered if such a thing existed. A few times she saw a glimmer in someone, but it never lasted.
Joe pulled up to the address Sadie had provided. The apartment building was old and rundown. He felt disappointed and not sure why he was. He knocked on apartment 222 and waited. As Sadie opened the door, he was surprised. She was prettier than her website photo and as he was ushered in, he was aware of her perfectly neat living area. The outside of the building was the opposite of her rooms inside.
Sadie took his arm and steered him to an overstuffed wing chair. He fell into the softness, relieved to be sitting on something other than a leather car seat. Sadie went to the kitchen area and retrieved a perfect tea set complete with cookies. It was after she sat opposite him that they both took a deep breath.
