We’re used to the stares
From young blond hairs
We’re producing heirs
Of course! We’re hares!
We come by it naturally.

Goofy grins
Scary scowls
Pumpkin faces
Make me howl
Screeching cats
With backs arched
Flying bats
Blood thirst parched
All these creatures we will see
In five days on Halloween!

Hesitatingly, he asked her to dance.

Joe and Jack were searching the woods for something new, something nice. After hearing their moms irate tirade this morning, they thought maybe finding something pretty might please her. It was suddenly right in front of them, a flower they’d not seen before. They thought they had found the gift they needed.
They picked it out of the ground carefully, ensuring the roots were intact. When the two arrived home, they went into the garage and picked out an old green moss trimmed pot to plant it in. They were so excited to present it to their mom.
“Oh my goodness”, she cried, knowing she had let her temper get away from her earlier. She bent down to sniff it and a weird look came over her face. The boys had picked a “Stinking Benjamin” otherwise known as a red trillium. Beautiful and unique, but not emitting a delightful fragrance. The boys also sniffed out of curiosity and it was decided to put the gift high on a shelf above their noses.

“Ouch! That broom has splinters!” The old witch rubbed her backside and shook the rattle of her skull wand at the novice. “Your job is to polish the broom every morning after my night rides!”
The young witch had worked hard to get the old one’s approval. Earning the full hat was a difficult task but she wanted it badly. The rules stated a few bat wings she had earned as a hat were not enough to ride out on All Hallows’ eve. It was coming right up, she only had a few days left to impress the old one.
“Get stirring that brew, everyone will be here shortly! Pong it strong, use the rat skins and cow pies, to make it reek. That takes time, so get moving! I doubt you’ll qualify as a full fledged witch this year, if you keep this up.”
The younger witch added more of the strong smelling ingredients and stirred quickly. A young hag’s work was never done.

The morning routine, checking the roads, and making sure the bridge was still steady and safe. The ranger loved these mornings, with the impending beauty of snow. The trees had been trimmed and broken branches were piled to make homes for small critters in the coming winter. The lake was starting to freeze and the fish would be settling in under the rocky glades. Every part of his surroundings was a blessing to him. His life’s work was being the keeper of this forest.

In between the morning sun
After running, playing fun
Midday meal and school and chores
Comes the highlight of the moors
Grassy mounds waving in the breeze
Birds start nesting in the trees
Twilight comes sweetly drifting in
And the awaited evening end begins.

The prompt for today is “dress”. I was thinking about how it seems all manner of dress revolves, so don’t throw out your trendy clothes, you’ll be seeing those trends again, and then read this.

I think we stayed up too late
My toad and I can’t keep our date
Our eyes won’t focus, and the broom?
No longer does it weave and zoom
Was it a nightmare or was it real
The broom just curled up like an eel
We can’t make the Halloween bash
Broom is useless now, would crash.
