PLEASE, just shut up!

Remember when it was bad form to use these two words anywhere? Now I believe the more popular F off is used instead. In the 60s and 70s when my kids were growing, I rarely said shut up but I wanted to. I was stressed. Now I could use it for my neighbors in the apartment above me.

Living on the bottom floor of an apartment building you hear everything–all the traffic, beeping alarms, (does anyone use their hands to open a car door anymore? Is it so difficult that you have to beep your way in and out all times of day and night?) air conditioners, warming up of engines, ice scrapers, plows, garbage trucks, delivery trucks.

When people come home from work, apparently they vigorously throw off their footwear, or maybe it’s their briefcase, laptop? And snoring, yes, I hear that at night if I can’t get to sleep before “they” do. I can’t sleep hearing snoring. My husband snored. My friend snores. I stayed at a hotel for a convention with my friend and got no sleep whatever. Apartments are just noisy places to live, and dogs, always a dog. I love dogs, just not their barking or crying.

I am quiet. The only time you hear noise from my apartment is when my grandkids are over and we’re laughing or watching a dvd on television. Watching TV is rare for me, I can’t stand commercials. If there ever was a time to say shut up it would be saying it to the tv commercials. Well that would be weird. I’m not saying I’ve never done it, but it is weird. Maybe I’m just weird. Maybe noise doesn’t bother anyone else.

MLMM Saturday Mix – Shine

***

Shine on my love

You brighten my day

Your humor delights

Me in every way

You are my sunshine

My beacon of hope

Without your light

I’m a bedraggled dope.

Your illumination warms

I can’t resist

Your hugs are heaven

As my body you kiss

Dark nights even stay at bay

Whenever you come to play.

The Funny Girl

Always a cheery bundle of hope, she was looked upon by some as the “funny girl”, not exactly datable but in a pinch, she would do. She rarely was considered an acceptable date as she had bold looks, and was rather clumsy at times. Good for a friend was what the boys thought, but in no way were they ever going to ask her on a real date.

As the funny girl grew, she blossomed into an attractive professional. She did not possess the beauty of a movie star, but some grown men began to realize her true beauty. She grew out of her clumsiness but was still not the most graceful. Her dates were rare and she longed for a companion to love.

Day dreaming at the office one day as she climbed the stairs, she bumped into a similar personality, male, coming down the stairs. It was a surprise clinch as he helped her up to stand, that their hands touched. Each person then looked, really looked at the other. Kismet.

MLMM First Line Friday 1-17-20

The scroll of the screen continued even after she closed her eyes.  It had been at least two hours she had been sitting there. Her mind was on hold after seeing the last sentence on the computer. Even the bright light of the screen in the now darkened room didn’t phase her. One sentence put her into this trancelike state.

She had known about the depression for some time, but the reality of her sister ever doing anything bizarre was incredible. She thought the therapist and medication would solve it, and carried on with her own life. She didn’t mean to ignore her sister, but she didn’t want to be brought into her doldrum life either. Being young, pretty, and a social butterfly, she was almost the opposite of her sister.

She should have taken her sister’s condition more seriously. She only realized it after reading the last shocking sentence of her sister’s email.

The last movie I watched was “Triple Frontier” with my grandson last weekend. In this title, life imitates art. If you only have three frontiers to overcome, you have it fairly easy. Every day a parent has many more. Some I think of immediately are:

Waking up yourself and then waking up your children

Walking and feeding pets

Breakfast and school lunch preparation, possibly set up dinner in a crockpot

Shower and dress yourself and children

Drive or walk, bus to school, work or volunteer job

And that’s just the morning hours! There are all types of frontiers, depending on who you are of course. These are only what I used to conquer.

Christine’s Daily Writing Prompt

There’s nothing false about music. The feelings are real and can be inspired by a Phillip Sousa march where the parade goers are shouting “hurray” for the old veterans marching or for the high school band in which their child is playing.

Music is the sound everyone loves. It could be a hip hop dancer, a head banger heavy metal lover, a ballet concerto or an operatic aria. Bluegrass, blues, jazz, all have their place. I admit I love almost all music. The most touching music I have heard in the last ten years was from a theatrical production of “Les Mis” in Denver. Those songs give me the chills and I can’t help crying when they are sung.

I enjoy some choirs, but prefer the old time hymns instead of new boring ones. I’ll lighten this up with a musical comedy movie that has a fantastic choir:
