I used to be an idol for the small ones, a wellspring of products accompanied me—a wardrobe, a pet, even houses! There was no lapse or lax in the production of Barbie accessories. Parents would log in to the latest rhetoric to keep their child happy, actually tired of the outfits, losing tiny shoes that of course were needed—to quell dramatic whines from their offspring consumers. But time goes on, and even I turn old with rickety breakable arms and legs and end up discarded with all the other dolls that were once lovingly cared for.

Always a handy guy to have around, James, the valet. His duties were written in a contract by the head of the household, Miss Scarlet Jones. Miss Jones was a stickler for neatness and decorum, at least in public. She rang the bell that was heard in the lower part of the house, for the servants. He entered the room with a soft knock, “yes, Miss Jones?”
“The usual, James, and when we’re done, don’t forget to press my dress…again.”
Joe tried to bury his wife’s outcry because it was louder this year at tax time. This year he had tried to absorb some of the money that would be due investing in contemporary commodities, hoping to smooth out their debt. They were saddled with high insurance costs and needed to find a way to compensate. Even though his wife’s illness was their main financial drain, he couldn’t contemplate how best to manage their finances.

The fly seemed to switch back and forth over the exposed bones as if it was an altar. It had observed the dying man for a while as he crawled, gasping, after the battle. The fly wondered why any human would martyr themselves in such futile violence. Humans were difficult to understand, but on the other hand, they had a lot more time than the fly’s species. It faltered over the broken corpse with a last look, then dismissed and flitted over to a strip of shattered bottle, where some spilled sweet liquid still remained.
If you haven’t yet started this series, I highly recommend it. I finished it and also Lenox Hill series featuring some of the same personnel. LH was filmed before the NYC documentary series. Please watch and tell your friends so series like this will be made.
