Tanka Tuesday Bussokusekika

This is the first week of The Beginning of Winter (November 7 – 21) Ritto 立冬. Every two weeks we will move into another season in the 24 Japanese Seasons HERE. We said it… the W-word: Winter. 🥶

Beginning of Winter

blankets cuddle me

night brings meteor showers

cold winds circling

swift icicle stars falling

an evening dance of light

watched from my bedroom window

dVerse Poets

Prosery, the very short piece of prose that tells a story with a beginning, a middle and an end, in any genre of your choice. It’s flash fiction, with a limit of 144 words and an additional challenge is to hit 144 exactly. would like you to write a story that includes the following line(s) from that poem. “November for Beginners”
BY RITA DOVE
‘Snow would be the easy
way out’

***

“Snow would be the easy way out” she offered him, smiling. Marriage had ups and downs and after three years it seemed the only thing shared was their love of skiing. The couple had relatively harried lives as successful business people, but had originally fallen in love on the snowy slopes of Colorado. Young and in need of a true companion, they found each other in the romantic winter setting. On vacation trips to take a break, both relished the favorite sport of skiing, and it resulted in a needed closeness. A nearly missed collision caused that meeting, and after leisurely warm conversations between runs, romance bloomed. They laughed later; it seemed too much a “Hallmark” happening, but it brought them together. Realizing a lull had occurred in their relationship, decided to reignite the original dream by returning to where they first met.

MLMM Sunday Confessionals

That is why, for this Sundayconfessionals, I would like you to create a fairytale.

This was her dream, a white steed and a warrior riding, all to save her. A childhood dream that prevailed into adulthood. Her life was ordinary, and unless she could transport into a different century, the knight would never come.

The very large office party was usually an annual obligation she despised, as any available men never seemed to live up to her fantasies. It was New Year’s Eve and she decided the new year would come and bring her a surprise. She dressed for the party in her most romantic dress and decided things were going to change.

The hotel ballroom was full of coworkers and some from all over the world. She had fun at last, meeting people from outside her comfort zone. As the time grew close to midnight she entered the balcony and begged the stars to grant her a new perspective, possibly fulfilling her dreams. It was five minutes till everyone would be kissing their lovers as the new year started. She closed her eyes.

When she opened them she was in a different place. The scene around her was a snowy forest. Her gown was covered in a fur trimmed heavy velvet cloak. The hotel and balcony were gone. Her dream vision was right in front of her—white steed and a knight! He removed his helmet and reached down to lift her to sit beside him on the horse. She was so surprised she blinked to make sure she was awake. She rode off with him and wondered what was waiting for her in this new life.

QUESTIONS

Do you ever feel more excited about getting the package in the mail, rather than the item that’s in it? I usually already know what’s in it.

What is the difference between your ideal self and your real self? (i.e. what attribute or physical feature would allow you feel the ideal ‘you’?) It’s too late to change now, I accept what’s not ideal.

If you found $2,000 on the ground and there were no witnesses, what would you do with it? Try to find the person who lost it.

Are you ever morally obliged to take action? Under what circumstances? I have a couple of times, both not appreciated.

Gratitude: My grandson and my close family here all came to visit on Sunday❤️

3TC + Bird Love

The brilliant pheasant stood on the hill to forsake false dignity and splay his multi- hued tail to the group of peahens below. He hoped the pleasant one he loved most would decide to accept his offer. All seemed to be going well until the peasant farmer aimed an arrow that struck next to the colorful cock. It suddenly shrunk back its ardor and ran off. Romance could wait.

Six Sentence Story

***

Life is all about balance—what you eat, what you wear, what exercise you choose and even what you think. Are you tired as I am about hearing this and realize as I do that whomever is perfectly balanced must have a screw loose somewhere? Life is a constantly changing, interfering blob of a mess, even for the (must be pretty bland) balanced person. Where is the romance, the daring do, the excitement? Maybe I’m just old and want those things to make sure I’m still alive. Being alive, really living, cannot be perfectly balanced, imho😀

Furry Love

The dappled skin of the blue heeler that came to me as a stray, was caught in a flash of sunlight. He was such a beauty and an angel in behavior. The sad pieces of his life before I found him must have been gone in a snap as soon as loving hands caressed his almost translucent fur coat. His affections remained furtive at first, but as he realized the flow of love emanating from me was a constant, he became comfortable in his new home.

Meat is something I grew up with, probably had daily. Now it’s more of a pain to fix, and so expensive! I usually shop for groceries online and never buy meat or fish there. It all depends on the store person who is shopping for me—most times it’s someone who cares but if not, I am stuck with it unless I ask someone to return it. That’s why it’s a pita😂. If I am in the store I choose an item and freeze it in portions to mete out the cost and have no waste. If I meet up with my daughter to take me to the store, I buy fresh items when I can see them myself. Got the bonus points!Yea😀

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Nov. 4, 2023

On the Fence?

If everything I contribute is brash and callous, my peak of followers will diminish. This of course is a trite reminder and causes placid posts to occur. So then, what is my choice? Be myself with an occasional hopefully humorous vibe or a dig at say, Mr T, or to write with words “everyone” accepts? I mostly try to stay in the middle but…

MLMM Saturday Mix

Joe ducked, he was almost used to it. As the television screen dissolved into flashing colorful pieces, he decided now would be a good time to join his buddies at the coffee shop. If only Trump would stop showing his lying face and voice, the tv was safe for a while. But today? He thought maybe do a rental plan for tvs from now on.
