Daily Addictions Prompt: Drive

Welcome back to Roger @https://dailyaddictions! Glad to see you!

***

I said drive!

Like a hungry bee around a hive

So fast that we’ll survive

Drive, man, drive!

If at all you derive

My meaning and want to stay alive

Then drive!

They’re after us, know our shrive

So if you wish to live and thrive,

Drive!

It was your idea to deprive

Them of their cash with a forty-five

Do you want to be in the most wanted top five?

I’m pleading with you, man, just drive!

Productive Target

Well, Joe, I see you’ve hit the target again!

Hit it? I surpassed it by a mile! Frank, you just don’t seem to get it. Making our business more productive takes a lot of hard work and dedication by our employees.

Isn’t that, pardon me for being blunt, their job?

Pardon me for being honest, too, Frank. Not all of us here at Acme Ltd rely on our good looks for employment. Some of us actually have to do our jobs.

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt #115

People often say in situations, “who am I to judge” usually meaning they are not criticizing a decision someone else has made, or an action they performed. Whether it effects them or not, they say this as a sort of mea culpa removing themselves from someone else’s judgment. It’s easy to talk the talk, try to blend in, go along with the crowd, but the rest of the saying goes, walk the walk. Walking alone, standing up for what you believe in, seemingly asking to be judged, is the hard part. Today it’s necessary.

MLMM Saturday Mix

***

Sitting on the side of the parade

Watching all the preparations made

Blankets and chairs on the curb were laid

Kids excited drinking lemonade

Platforms of dancers causing mirth

Riders on saddles round horses’ girth

Sometimes you needed to give a wide berth

Even with wind and sun it was worth (it.)

SoCS July 20, 2019

Good morning! We have had real summer weather here in Cheyenne, and Frontier Days is going strong, even with the new rodeo rules causing dissent. I’m not a rodeo fan, I love the animals involved too much to see any calf roping or bull riding. I do admire the guts it takes for the people to ride these animals. The Prompt this week is frame. Here is my contribution:

He put the picture in a frame

Showing his bronco busting fame

The bronc he rode had a name

A chestnut named Flying Flame.

Have a fun weekend, remember to smile!

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS July 20/19

Word of the Day: Universe

Just wondering if there is any place in the universe that I might find a comfortable bra (brassiere).

***

“The term brassiere was used by the Evening Herald in Syracuse, New York, in 1893.[3] It gained wider acceptance in 1904 when the DeBevoise Company used it in their advertising copy—although the word is actually Norman French for a child’s undershirt. In French, it is called a soutien-gorge (literally, “throat-supporter”).[4] It and other early versions resembled a camisolestiffened with boning.[5]“

“Vogue magazine first used the term brassiere in 1907,[6][7] and by 1911 the word had made its way into the Oxford English Dictionary.[8] On 3 November 1914, the newly formed US patent category for “brassieres” was inaugurated with the first patent issued to Mary Phelps Jacob.[9][10] In the 1930s brassiere was gradually shortened to bra.[4]“

“Women have used a variety of garments and devices to cover, restrain, reveal, or modify the appearance of breasts. Bra- or bikini-like garments are depicted in some female athletes of the Minoan civilization in the 14th century BC.”

In 1873 Elizabeth Stuart Phelps advocated that women burn their corsets.

I always thought it must have been designed by a man who never would have the unfortunate pleasure of wearing one, sadly no.
