New is something important to me when it comes to bathrooms and kitchens. I have lived in new, old, and antique homes, apartments, etc, and I very much prefer new when it comes to extremely personal space. Moving into a newly built home twice, I was extremely fortunate. We picked out all the colors, tiles, wallpaper, etc. Beautiful!
I’m not saying moving into a used home with red velvet drapes, gold shag carpet, and brown painted walls throughout was horrible, but eww. However, we had no choice. It was either that one or the one with a bright pink and yellow bathroom (sorry, but I thought I was going to be sick). So after we moved in, I painted everything off white to start.
Another home we moved into was built in 1940. Let’s just say we were lucky to live in that house without an electrical fire, roof caving in after rain leaks, plumbing temperamental, and a refrigerator with a off/on handle. This refrigerator was my daughter’s task to clean and I took the bathroom. It took us about a day to get it good enough to use. Gas stove I loved as a cooktop, but the oven pilot light went out all the time. Water heater in the basement also went out every time there was a strong wind.
Moving to Wyoming, I am in a new apartment. Everything fresh and clean. But it’s not perfect. I guess handicapped people are not expected to use the stovetop light or fan, which exists, but has no electric switch to turn it on. Just one of the fun things you have to take with a sense of humor or it will drive you crazy. I’m not crazy yet, at least I don’t think so…..
