The triumph over the better equipped and more numerous French troops was an enormous emotional boost for the Mexican soldiers led by Gen. Joe was the typical fanatic when it came to watching his son compete as a track and field participant and his son, Mike was an exceptional runner. Watching from the sideline it was hard for Joe not to yell encouragement for Mike. The relevance of some typical parents’ comments bothered Joe. He believed in being positive only. The cumbersome presence of unruly adults required a few coaches to require protection! The results of these childish adult actions seemed a furphy reported in the local news, but Joe and the participants knew it to be true.
