I am a widow since 2013 and live by myself in a small apartment. I use a wheelchair to get around, but I wouldn't consider myself disabled. I'm 11 years away from having bladder cancer resulting in a urostomy and I'm doing well. This cancer was a result of having radiation in 1995 because of uterine cancer. So have faith in yourself, a cancer diagnosis is not a death sentence. My first try at blogging was an attempt to help other people with my condition. I am a mother of three married children, and a grandmother to eight gorgeous kids, featuring them often here, and a great grandmother to two as of today, 6/7/25! I enjoy exploring my feelings and like to try the challenges. I like humor, music, movies, games, and some sports. I absolutely appreciate your reading and commenting on my blog. Fandango’s Story Starter

This week’s Story Starter teaser is: As she approached him, he dropped the gun on the sofa and told her he didn’t do it. “I know,” she said.

Joe was not the type to advocate violence. He didn’t even know how to load that gun with bullets. His wife on the other hand was an Army vet and knew more than she wanted to about guns and the damage they do.

Joe sunk down in the chair and said, “I just wanted to scare him away.” And that’s what he did…scare him, to death. The man lying in Joe’s driveway had a heart attack after seeing Joe come out of the house with the gun. The weakened health stranger was looking for help to change a flat tire.

Simply Six Minutes

June had been here before. As a visiting and hospice nurse she came to many areas like this—overgrown, unattended, and it was usually a case of the owner being in a home by themselves. Mostly they were the elderly who refused to leave, wanting to die in their own home, and June did not blame them. An extended hospital stay hooked up to a machine, IVs, etc in a strange place was hardly ideal. But neither was dying alone and that’s where June came in. Being this type of nurse she was able to adjust her schedule to be there when they needed her most. She hesitated at the steps, steeling herself for this patient’s last day.

“That’s no excuse! I know you loved him once, but you are smarter than this routine of coffee, laundry, huddling around a stove all day, making that man’s feast! And all that gross dressing, cleaning and cooking any wild meat he shoots? Your love isn’t rewarded by this servitude.”

“Ever think about taking a trip, say to a tropical climate instead of this frozen atmosphere—add a little variety in your life? You’re still young…take a tip from me sweetheart, when he spends all day out in the timber, do you see him thinking of you? Believe me, a little time away might leave him appreciative of a vegetarian diet.”

Sue shrugged but suddenly turned to get the step stool. On the top shelf she retrieved an ancient vase and took out all the money she had secretly stored away.

“Guess it’s a rainy day today” her friend said with a grin and helped Sue pack a bag.

“3:55! Oh my god, where have I been?” The coffee was cold and the screen was blank…Sue had sat down here at 7:30 and look what the time is now! She took up the computer and looked it over to see if there had been some type of glitch and if the time was wrong. She ran into the kitchen and saw the same 3:55 on the stove clock. Then Sue noticed she was no longer wearing the pajamas she had on at 7:30, but a beautiful evening dress. She started to panic when a figure appeared in the doorway.
“Enjoy your trip?” And that is when she remembered what she thought was last night’s dream, time travel with this stranger. Sue started to remember more and her face was red, but what a dream!
