I am a widow since 2013 and live by myself in a small apartment. I use a wheelchair to get around, but I wouldn't consider myself disabled. I'm 11 years away from having bladder cancer resulting in a urostomy and I'm doing well. This cancer was a result of having radiation in 1995 because of uterine cancer. So have faith in yourself, a cancer diagnosis is not a death sentence. My first try at blogging was an attempt to help other people with my condition. I am a mother of three married children, and a grandmother to eight gorgeous kids, featuring them often here, and a great grandmother to two as of today, 6/7/25! I enjoy exploring my feelings and like to try the challenges. I like humor, music, movies, games, and some sports. I absolutely appreciate your reading and commenting on my blog. I am happy to read all of your blogs and learn more about you. Please comment however you like, ask whatever, and I'll answer honestly. Thanks for reading! Cheryl
She held out her arms to hug me, but I knew this wasn’t my house — and she definitely wasn’t my wife. It was the skin color which was a turn on I admit, but purple has always been my favorite color. Then having six arms was a bit daunting, but hey, those six arms started holding me in interesting places… “Uh, who are you and where is my wife?”
“Right here darling. I went to the new spa on tenth street and got a makeover. It’s the latest thing in this new town on this planet, Valentina. Do you like it?” Then his wife started caressing him with those lovely purple arms and he thought, all is well that ends well.
“Will you stop singing that song? Just because it’s my name, and rhymes with Dude, look at us! We’re dying here, and when the next big wind comes up we’re gone! Save me the “we need to go propagate to save our species speech…people hate us, try to dig us up and even poison us!”
Dude just keeps humming the song, then says, “think of all the little yellow blooms we’ll make”, trying to ease Jude’s mind. Dude sees a few bushes nearby starting to move in the breeze. He knows the end is coming and starts singing louder.

I chose: Write about something that bothered you this week.
Since I have been home with not being able to put any weight on my left leg, I’ve realized how much I rely on two feet even though I can’t feel those feet and am in a wheelchair 24/7. That fact escapes some doctors and my current orthopedic doc who may be a great surgeon but does not take the time to know his non surgical patients. His parting words after telling the nurse to fit me with a “boot” were, “we’ll have you up and walking in no time”.
“So, you perform miracles” is what I should have said right then but he was too quick out the door. Amazing to me that any doctor goes into a room to see a patient and chooses not to know who he’s actually talking to. If he had known anything about me he would have seen a file that noted I’ve not been able to walk for 15+ years. My wheelchair is not just a charming accessory.
Even in rehab some nonfrequent PT people would say the same thing. It just makes you sad and frustrated as a patient. They seemed to expect my right leg to do all the work when that leg has also been asleep for many years. These people must think the wheelchair is something I “wear” occasionally.
Okay so that’s what’s bothering me and has been so, since I broke my leg on March 25. Enough on that.

“Something told the wild geese It was time to fly.” The old man spoke to his grandchildren in a hushed tone. They sat together on some driftwood available on the cold sand beach. The man looked nostalgically at the waves, seemingly mesmerized by their slow constant motion. The children were getting anxious to put their feet in the water but it was really too chilly yet. “Soon”, he told them. “When the cherry and apple blossoms fill the trees, it will be warm enough, but for today, let’s look for some unbroken shells floating in to the sand. Next time we’ll bring some bread for the gulls, there’s always something fun to do on the beach.” As the children spread out a bit, he glanced up again at the geese, hoping for a safe journey coming home.
