SYW 9-30-24

Here are this week’s questions:

1.  Did your parental home have a ‘parlour’ or front room reserved only for when you had visitors? No

2. Did you ever go to stay with relatives during the school holidays? No

3. Did relatives (cousins, grandparents) come to stay with your family in the holidays? Yes, loved that, it was crowded coziness!

4. What do you remember from the 1960s.
Alternative question for readers who were born later than I was (1956)
What decade do you remember the most about?
I turned 18, got my first real job – for the government, married and my two sons were born, man landed on the moon and flower children were protesting the war in Vietnam.

Gratitude: I am grateful that my granddaughter arrived safely for a home visit!

Camping in snow waiting for a thaw

His wildlife photos always caused awe

Tented in the wilderness in a hidden draw

Hard to believe all that he saw

Filmed too close to a mountain lion’s paw

Now has a big scar from its sharpened claw.

Sunday’s Six Sentence Story Word Prompt!

The Sunday Whirl

His glimpses of her wet lashes touched his heart. He didn’t mean for his secret dream to plague her. Her mere presence in the bedroom made his breath halt, his heart jump, and a fire rise up in his body. He told no lies as he spoke his desire for her in breathy whispers, his hands touching her ever so lightly, holding gently. She also had the feelings he expressed and her tears were only a passionate response.

In a sorcerer’s hut there was a man, in the bathtub. Unfortunately the man was stuck. Now you might think that being a sorcerer and a man being stuck in the bathtub in a sorcerer’s hut might be no problem at all. After all, there is a magic man handy! But of course I could be wrong. I could write the true story here, get a laugh out of it, but of course, the man in the tub would think it was quite rude. A fat man in a tub is sort of funny all by itself. Because naturally using the word fat means that he’s probably stuck in there. Maybe not. Possibly the true story is that the sorcerer and the man are in the tub together, and not to be taken literally, one was large and they were having a good time. Who doesn’t like a bubble bath?

He thought his words were deep,

a special meaning he construed

His teacher thought much less,

said they were shallow and misused

The grade caused a tear,

student faced a dismal sight,

The teacher ignored him,

her expression remained bright.

Many teachers guide a child with praise,

while others cause an ego to be grazed.

Opposing Forces – Saturday Mix, 28 September 2024

One Day of Prompts

One day in the life of a taxi driver led to being a defendant in court. He stood in front of the judge who was looking sideways at him, in a suspicious manner and said, “And you expect me to believe this was all a bag of crisps fault?”

The taxi driver looked back to a child sitting in the courtroom, “Yes, your honor! I had that boy and his mom as a fare and they were arguing about the bag and it came flying up, spilled crisps over my head causing me to run into the car in front of me.”

“Split the damage costs between you and the boy and his mother.”

“That’s acceptable, your honor.”

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt

Regrets
Calculate, fairly easy to find a rhyming mate, but this morning I’m in a sorry state, find my connections are probably too late, causing me to contemplate.

My life turned a corner when I left New England. I lost contact with family and friends. Those were days before computers, tablets, or cell phones. Letters were the communication, telephone calls were long distance consisting of calling an operator who would place the call and maybe call you back. Calculating, sadly have no excuse for noncommunication.
