Certainly Joe felt secure in his home, but he was lonely. Especially since he fell and had to use a crutch to get around. His usual drive to the town events that kept him busy were unattainable. A friend suggested he go down to the animal shelter to get a dog for companionship. The friend drove Joe to the dumb friends league to meet a new friend. He pushed open a door to see a bunch of cages, stacked on top of each other, and pressed his hand on his forehead. He was a kind man and to see this many abandoned animals made tears come to his eyes. His friend saw this and handed a slip of permission to the tech who maintained the cages. The tech took them to dogs that were going to be disposed of soon, their time was up. Joe found a certain animal that seemed to connect with him right away. On the way home, they stopped to get food, basket, and a wool blanket, wrapped the quiet dog in it and it seemed settled immediately. The warmth of his new companion suited both the dog and new owner.
