dVerse Poets

***

Autumn leaves crowded the forest floor, and as we walked along, we could hear crunching sounds as “the dead were settling in under their mud roof, and something was shuffling overhead”. The trees were thick in this section of the woods and we expected some small critters were around, but above us? It was almost frightening and we dared each other to look up. A baby raccoon and his mother were sitting on the maple tree branch and looked more scared than we were. Raccoons usually come out at night, but this densely packed woodland area was hidden from the sun in late afternoon. We hurriedly left them, not wanting to scare them away. I think they climbed up when hearing us approach.

Prosery:  Something shuffling overhead

  1. A delightful piece of October Prosery, Cheryl! Your raccoons are a little like our badgers, as both forage in the woods. The main difference is that badgers can’t climb trees – they would probably fall out! I love the way both humans and raccoons were scared.
