I hope to add a smile on your face as you read my choice. Aretha Franklin’s hit in 1967 has a misheard line and below is the explanation from her.

“That “take out TCP” line doesn’t make much sense, when you think about it. Take T, C and P out of RESPECT and what are you left with? RESE, which don’t mean much.”

“The line, in fact, is “Take care of TCP” — something the Queen of Soul herself was happy to clear up to a Los Angeles Times reporter writing about the frequently misheard lyric back in 1998.”

“Hello, this is Aretha Franklin … It’s ‘R-E-S-P-E-C-T, take care of T-C-B,’ as in taking care of business,” the singer said in a voicemail left to the LA Times after they pondered the meaning of the lyric.”

The song has surged back into the iTunes charts today after the sad news of Franklin’s death at age 76 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.”
