Joe hesitated on the step. It wasn’t the first time he tried to go inside, and turning around and getting back into his car seemed the better option. He couldn’t see the man sitting back on the right side. Could it be he, too, was reluctant to meet? Thirty years had passed and Joe thought he probably wouldn’t recognize the father he only knew a few years. George was also uncomfortable, twisting a bit in his chair in the old fashioned lobby. He had reason to be, but with failing health he wanted to see his son before anything happened.

I’m glad they have both gotten there. I hope they can overcome their fears.

Impending death can be a great motivator.

A tricky situation, where both fight with their internal desires. I know a young man who tried to find his father, when he did! He was told where to go. So soul destroying and self-esteem destroying. Now he nows the truth and can stop thinking about it all.

Nice take Cheryl. Difficult for both parties.
