Living Poetry

***

Wordsworth had come to love it

Using common words with wit

To rise up and show the world

That poets can become unfurled

Stirring up old poets’ nerves

No tight corners but shapely curves

The use of previous unused

Didn’t pass the test, refused

To suddenly become a norm

With new poetry forms.

Monday Poetry Prompt: Common, Rise, Wordsworth

2 thoughts on “Living Poetry

  1. No common knowledge justifies
The mistruths, fibs, and common lies
    Shuffled, muffled compromise
    The nepotism on the rise

This theatre for the common man
No written script. No common plan
Red tie, red face, old red man
    Wakes up cranky. Bombs Iran

    Nightmares. Nightmares every night
You toss you turn. You wake in fright
But there it is in broad daylight
You shake your fists. You shout. You fight

Shout all you like, but no one hears
    Protest falls on deafened ears
A pantomime of all your fears
All tragedy must end in tears

And so it’s just another day
You can beg and you can pray
No-one hears a word you say
    What are Wordsworth anyway?
