The Sunday Whirl

***

As we grew nearer to the rock, too large it seemed to be what our guide said it was – a map of symbols, now covered by a shroud, when the trail narrowed and the sun mysteriously to dull. The guide’s promise was after we crossed the water barrier, the sun painting would become clear to us. We all expected to see artifacts and ancient hieroglyphics, but the huge sun symbol was intriguing. From that area, tracks on the path led us to a moon sign, not an historical image, but placed next to what appeared to be a hand hewn spear, free standing on the side. The guide assured us it was authentic, stolen from a cave hundreds of years ago, but how many other tourists had walked by it, probably touching it? Later as our group discussed the tour, we decided most of what we saw was definitely not the real thing.
