Putting My Feet in the Dirt – 4-28-19
Donning her denim’s overalls for a day outside in the garden, Mary was excited to see what Mother Nature did with the seedlings she planted last week. Working in the city, these weekend trips back to the bucolic setting of her youth were heavenly.
Last week she planted some of her favorite vegetable seedlings, grown from seeds indoors the past few weeks. Mary’s hope was that a sturdy start would help them survive during her five day absence. To Mary’s surprise, they all seemed to be doing well until she came upon one odd sight, the eggplant sprouts. They were larger than any of the other vegetables and quite peculiar in appearance. She decided the seeds must have been particularly healthy and went on gardening.
The next weekend Mary returned to find many plants had taken hold well and she was very happy until she spotted large purple blobs taking over the corn plants. The eggplants were almost frighteningly large. The vine seemed to be strangling the corn stalks. Corn plants were covered with them and their tops were looking dry, even malnourished.
Mary was shocked at these uneasy eggplant episodes and started to pull their vines away from the corn stalks.
Sadly to report, Mary’s body was found by investigating police when she had not shown up for her job in the city. “A bizarre sight” the forensics team observed as Mary seemed to have been strangled and partially consumed by vines emanating from the oversized eggplants. The coroners had never experienced a vanquish by vicious veggies before.
