Tanka Tuesday

***

the first month with sleet

the second with ice droplets

leaves close, fearing death

frosted edges curled protect

in the end still fall and die

***

late winter garden

root vegetables stay fresh

nature’s bounty stilled

wait to be freed from cold soil

to warm broth of winter soup

***

blanket by the fire

winter respite from the cold

cozy comfort need

fire glows enhance the scene

crackling wood sounds delight

***

Blanket by the fire has six syllables but thought it was meant to be five. Might be a Southern interpretation😀
