Thoughts Near Death
All dreams rejected
Faith previously respected
Leave me feeling dejected
I might have suspected
As one thing led to another collected
Brain, mind stood, and objected
Then a sneaking suspicion detected
A feeling of fear, and unprotected
Old memories visited and selected
Filtered as if dissected
No longer safely connected
Their mind with disease affected
Barriers of truth erected
Feelings of resentment projected
Only the basic form of love accepted.

This was an excellent use of the prompt—I love the emotion as well as the rhyme scheme!

What a superb exposition of the thoughts around impending death – which, let’s face it, applies to all of us, throughout our lives, except that most people don’t recognise that truth until they are older or confronted wit a terminal disease, either in themselves or somebody close…
