Fandango’s Flash Fiction Challenge – Deadly Silence

***

Joe was worried as he thumbed through the latest email requests from his boss. He had only been on the job a couple of weeks and it seemed the initial job description was out the window. A new task was added almost every day and he was sure he wouldn’t be able to handle it all.

Julie was engrossed in her computer screen, deciding which new dress she would purchase. With Joe’s new job she was excited to be able to shop freely again. Now which one should she choose? Being pregnant with their second child, she took quite a while trying to find a good fit, but wanted it to be pretty, too.

Joe never looked into Julie’s screen, because if and when he did, all he could envision was dollar signs, loads of them!

Julie was oblivious to Joe’s consternation as he was reading emails. He seemed constantly attached to his phone lately,

There’s no happy ending for this family until they put their devices down, turn them off and actually speak and listen to each other.
