Eden saw doubt in their trembling smiles, they never expected her to recover. Of course unbeknownst to them, that was the plan all along. The medicine withheld from her causing what Jack hoped was a fatal attack, and yet here she was, laying there, still breathing. The rest of the family might miss her, but not him.
Foiled again, Jack thought. What does it take for this old lady to bite the bullet and go on that long deep dark trip to join the devil? She deserved it, everyone knew it, especially Jack.
He was getting more frustrated as she clung to life over and over again. There was the car “accident” breaking her legs, the healed broken neck from slipping on an icy sidewalk and the rabid dog bite set up by a friend of his. Who knew they now have meds for that? Jack was stifled at every turn. This last attempt, hiding her medicine and scaring her to death, (he should be so lucky), even failed because here she was, still.
Jack left the hospital room, shaking his head. Maybe he’ll have to forget about his inheritance and get a job after all.

Excellent telling. I hope poor Jack has to cancel all his media subscriptions….
