I held her tightly, but she still trembled. Soothing her brow with a cool cloth didn’t seem to help. I tried talking to her, pressing my lips to her ear so she would hear how much I loved her, needed her to stay. Her eyelashes fluttered in recognition, as if she realized time was short. I held her face and pressed a soft, last dying kiss on her cold lips.
