“White cliffs of Dover, my ass! These are black, Harry, black and too high to be climbing!”
” I never said they were white, and this isn’t the UK! This is Maine!”
Bumblenuts Joe and Harry decided it was time to be adventurous. Today the unmarried twin brothers turned fifty years old, and had never attempted much of anything in their time. This was going to be the big push into the next half of their lives.
Deciding on rock climbing after a week’s training course at the local recreation facility, the two men were braced to be invincible. Adjusting their newly acquired gear from the Brave Bunglers store down the street, they packed a lunch and climbed into a jeep. The car rental company employee held back snickers as he observed another set of would be climbers drive off.
Halfway into the first twenty feet of the high cliff, Harry noticed there was no place to easily hack in another piton. He yelled down to Joe to pass up the larger hammer and finally accomplished setting a second secured anchor. At this point, it was decided refreshment was needed and Harry repelled down the ten feet to base. Unhooking themselves and removing their gear after a half hour of strenuous activity, Harry and Joe sat back to admire the ocean view and ate lunch. It was nine in the morning.

I love this, 9am in the morning for lunch. Yup, I can picture that happening to two fifty-year-old men who have never done an adventure like this. This was a cleverly written story. Good one!! π
