Oscar Night

Room 53 again, she thought, wondering if the old actress would remember her today. She had been summoned by the over bell as usual, at ten fifteen on the dot, interrupting her morning break.

Entering the room to a welcoming “There you are, my favorite nurse. How are you, dear?” Glad to see the woman was coherent for now, Colleen happily responded.

“I am feeling fine today, Miss Jones, and happy to find you looking well this morning.”

The nurse walked over and adjusted the woman’s pillows and pulled the afghan over her knees. “What are you planning to do today, Miss Jones?”

“I’m glad you asked me that Colleen. I need you to check my chiffon gown to see if it needs pressing. I have the Oscars tonight, you know, and must look my best. Being a star takes effort to look your best. Did the Harry Winston jewels arrive yet?”
