Picking out a match from the box, Joey said, “ready?” and lit the firecracker they sneaked from dad’s garage. Their father had assembled a variety of fireworks for the Labor Day weekend at their grandpa’s farm.
The boys were city dwellers and had no concept of the rules where no fireworks were allowed. On the farm there was a nice open field with safety not an issue, but little boys don’t think that way.
The countdown complete, fuse started to burn, and two lads seeking adventure got a big surprise. The firework choice was longer and louder than expected. Several neighbors came running out of their apartments expecting to see a gunfight. 911 was called, the boys severely questioned and the dad embarrassed to admit, yes, he did have illegal fireworks.
