Word of the Day: Delicate

“Those were the days” she said, reminiscing about the farm, her husband, their lives together. “A lot of years of hard work, but we were so happy. Busy all the time, but we managed a few minutes every day just for us.”

Jo’s grandma talking more to herself than Jo, kept her hands in constant motion as she crocheted another doilie. It was good for her, to exercise her fingers, keep them capable. Jo’s grandma was a small wiry woman in her eighties, but still as brilliant as ever. Her story telling was interesting to her family and they hoped to keep them in memory to tell their own grandchildren.

“Your grandfather loved these little doilies; you wouldn’t think he would care for such impractical delicate things, but he admired the patterns. That’s why I make them still, it makes me think of his sweet admiration of my craft.
