Just wondering if there is any place in the universe that I might find a comfortable bra (brassiere).
***
“The term brassiere was used by the Evening Herald in Syracuse, New York, in 1893.[3] It gained wider acceptance in 1904 when the DeBevoise Company used it in their advertising copy—although the word is actually Norman French for a child’s undershirt. In French, it is called a soutien-gorge (literally, “throat-supporter”).[4] It and other early versions resembled a camisolestiffened with boning.[5]“
“Vogue magazine first used the term brassiere in 1907,[6][7] and by 1911 the word had made its way into the Oxford English Dictionary.[8] On 3 November 1914, the newly formed US patent category for “brassieres” was inaugurated with the first patent issued to Mary Phelps Jacob.[9][10] In the 1930s brassiere was gradually shortened to bra.[4]“
“Women have used a variety of garments and devices to cover, restrain, reveal, or modify the appearance of breasts. Bra- or bikini-like garments are depicted in some female athletes of the Minoan civilization in the 14th century BC.”
In 1873 Elizabeth Stuart Phelps advocated that women burn their corsets.

I always thought it must have been designed by a man who never would have the unfortunate pleasure of wearing one, sadly no.

I’m actually more comfortable in a bra, than being all jiggly, but mine fit properly. I like Maidenform.

It turned out to be a great invention. Looking at the women in the tribes wearing no bras all their lives, this invention would have helped. Thank you for the info, Cheryl.

I’m so used to them now, when I don’t wear them at night, I’m on the verge of getting a cold. 🙂

True enough, an unpleasant piece of apparel for some? But really how would you care for the most sensitive part of reproductive organ placed between the legs either..? Planning department needs a talking to..? Cheers Jamie
