Word of the Day: Daddy

This is a strange word for me personally. We grew up calling our father Dad. I never remember using the word daddy, ever. Probably my reason for this is the term daddy is seemingly more casual, friendly, warmer.

Our father was old school, a disciplinarian, hard worker, three pack of Lucky Strikes a day machinist, horseman, dairy farmer. That was how I knew him. In his young years he lived on a small homestead, managed horses and was a real western cowboy. I doubt anyone who knew him would ever think the word daddy applied.

When I moved to Texas from New England, I thought it humorous that all of our friends who were from Southern states called their fathers daddy. A grownup calling their father daddy seemed odd. There were plenty of other things I found odd in that “2000 miles away from home” area, too. I’ll write of them another time.
Meanwhile, a very fun Happy Father’s Day to all of you!❤️
