“Good gosh, Gary! This geological formation can’t be here! Seriously, this type of formation shouldn’t exist in this atmosphere.”
The two scientists panicked as they checked their air supply. “Don’t look now Harry, but it’s starting to move.”
Of course Harry had to look but it didn’t keep him from starting to walk backwards away from the rocks.
Gary and Harry originally thought they had discovered an ancient cave on this blue planet–drawings had indicated it on the outside. As they descended further in they realized they had discovered a new type of geological formation. It’s color resembled the familiar sandstone but was entirely puzzling.
“Let’s get the samples and get back to the pod asap!” Grabbing the small hammer, they sealed the unknown mineral into small tubes and made their way out of the cave towards the space rover.
It was only as they were safely inside they saw a creature on two legs waving an additional appendage. It was a tiny creature. It looked similar to the drawings that had been discovered earlier. Both of them shrieked and scrambled into the recesses of their capsule.
The last thing they heard as they ascended skyward was “Gday, mates”.
Great story.
