“The Martian” by Andy Weir
“Today it was time to experiment with the panels”. Those were Jim’s last words. It was a lovely day in Chicago. I thought it was windy in Wyoming, but the stiff breeze off the icy lake was worse. Jim and I decided this area was an excellent choice to test the solar panels in a cloudy atmosphere. Our dream was to have even a cloudy day provide enough stored energy to house us warmly in this climate. The sunny days in Wyoming were great, but we needed to find other, not so enhanced but hopefully profitable, areas for our new panels.
Just as Jim was placing the last in a block of ten, a strong gust lifted him up into the air. Unfortunately, when I watched him fly away like the Silver Surfer, I realized our dreams were dashed.
