As he heard the fateful earful
The night of the rehearsal
Said in a manner sneerful

From the words she had spoken
Sat on the church pew oaken
Holding her ring, his token
Rejected by his chosen
Sat and cried.

Thought he’d risen to her station
But tonight her revelation
Had no crystal clear consolations
