“I heard the bells on Christmas Day

Their old familiar carols play

And wild and sweet,

The words repeat

Peace on earth, goodwill to men”

A favorite of mine

At Christmas time

Bears the season’s

Best hopeful reason

Peace on earth

For what it’s worth

Repeat to no avail

We say it, hope for it

May even adore it

But it’s not to be

It is too easy

To forget the problems

They sift to the bottom

Of holiday cheer

Even meeting here

We post a greeting

To ones we’re not meeting

Emails to loved ones far away

Who really knows about their day?

Soldiers living and fighting afar

Who really knows how they are?

We would all like to believe

Dream that peace be achieved

But just as the carol I put today

“There is no peace on earth” I say.
