It was a cool October evening with a bright gibbous moon illuminating the open garage. Mary and her mawkish husband were just getting home from a tiring trip to see their favorite entertainer, a brunette bombshell well over the age of fifty, but still sexy in her husband’s eyes. They had heard her sing a few times over the years on special occasions. Her voice was aging but still melodious and it brought memories of when they visited her establishment on their younger “date nights”. Mary wasn’t the jealous type of woman and the couple’s night usually finished with a sensual encounter. Being married for a long time sometimes needed these “inspirational” evenings.
“I remember the last time my handsome young swain invited me to dance when she sang “I Cant Help Falling in Love”, Mary offered, hoping it would bring back pleasant memories to Joe also. “Listening to her tonight made me feel the same way. I love you, Joe”. Mary was trying to lead Joe into a romantic mood, especially since on the way home she had pestered him about driving with the turn signal on. She regretted chiding him with her careless remark.
Mary and Joe were a typical older couple whose romantic life was often mundane, interrupted with the Lilliputionary trials of necessity. . .children’s problems, tiresome routine jobs, and elderly parents. The everyday happenings unintentionally corrupted the charmed life they envisioned as young lovers.
Joe pulled Mary’s wrap tight around her and looked her straight in her still beautiful blue eyes. “I don’t need reminding, Mary, I still feel the same about you as I did those years ago. She is still sexy though, isn’t she, old girl?” Mary couldn’t help but blush as they walked arm and arm, laughing.
