Years ago I likened family to the flowering vine. Each leaf and flower represents someone in the family. It has strong roots, and is always climbing to new heights, looking for the sunlight of the day. It grows even during cloudy times. Heavy rain, loud thunder, and even lightning strikes which might cause a bud to fall or even destroy parts of the vine, but it climbs on. It is a resilient vine, and loves the addition of new leaves and encompasses them with a loving curl. A gardener may try to intervene in the vine’s path, but it is steadfast to spread further, gaining more structure, and strength. This metaphor reminds me of the Spanish word, familia.
