Eugi’s Weekly Prompt – Autumn Leaves

There is nothing more precious to an old Vermont heart

As when it turns cooler and autumn starts

Natural beauties of falling leaves

Raked in piles and pulled from eaves

A welcomed task no bother for me

It’s the beautiful colors I’m privileged to see.

Waiting

***

Promises made, none kept

Still sitting here

Looking unkept

Only an hour she vowed and said

As you can see, I am now dead.

She loves to shop and needs a van

Buying everything–anything she can!

As can you see

Only here is me

Waiting for the promised caravan

She bought for our travel to foreign lands.

Of course I love her, forgive her as such

But waiting here all this time’s a bit much!

MLMM Sunday Writing Prompt

***

“Ever heard of the Chinese shuffle?” Joe always tried to impress his poker buddies with a bit of card play. He demonstrated, expecting a laugh from them, but the hour was late and they were tired. It didn’t help that Joe’s chip piles were substantially larger than theirs.

“Ever heard of this?” George pulled out a revolver and laid it on the table beside his cards. “Now deal!”

Joe was shocked to find the newest player to the group so frightening. He started fumbling with the cards and unintentionally dropped one in his lap. He was so nervous he didn’t notice the error, but George did. The game went on with lucky Joe being the winner as usual. The lost card would have made George the winner.

George once again lifted the revolver and pointed it at Joe. “So, winning again, Joe? Stand up and let’s see what you’re hiding.” Joe did as he was told and to his surprise, the missing card fell on the table. “See? I knew you were cheating all along!” George grabbed Joe’s chips and threw them around the table to the other players. Everyone abruptly left Joe sitting there. Now Joe does his shuffling tricks at home, alone.

“Grumbling again about this trip, Martha? I’ve told you that staying home would be best, but it was your idea, and here we are in the middle of the night in a place we don’t know on a dark road, looking for a motel. I know you thought we could drive straight through, but I’m beat. It’s two in the morning and I don’t think I can drive any further!”

Frank sees a small light in the distance. The car starts to sputter because it’s running out of gas. Finally a part of a neon sign is seen ahead, blinking on and off. It is the “It’ll Do Motel”. The car dies at the entryway. Frank gets out as an old woman dressed only in a nightgown, points a rifle at him. “Need a room?” she barks.

“Martha, this is the icing on the cake!”

Carrot Ranch Flash Fiction – Radio

In bed late at night when sleep refused to ease my pain, or troubles were scattered around my brain, I would toss and turn. As a distraction I would tune to a crazy Texas radio host to listen. He was one that was outside the norm; he or his callers would either make you laugh or give you the creeps. I wish I had access to his broadcasts now, for sleep evades until the sun rises.

The worst talk radio, one my husband often subjected me to – Rush Limbaugh, aka Rude Windbag. I doubt I’d like anyone today.

Good day everyone! Sun is shining but I’m still chilly so coffee and blanket are my lazy day friends.

The idea of collar is interesting. If you don’t wear a collared shirt in some places you may be collared by authorities. Your only respite would be to ask a man with a clerical collar to aid you.

You would probably not be wearing a collared shirt to do a plumbing job requiring a collar joint but high waisted pants should be necessary.πŸ‘¨β€πŸ”§

I hope you all have beautiful autumn weather this weekend.🍁

Schools

Betsy DeVos is a plague for public schools. As a Parent Teacher Association local and state president, I can tell you we have been fighting this funding of private schools for years. Instead of making public schools better, we have people like BD in charge–how this happened I haven’t a clue, but like so many other Trump appointees, she has no experience.

Money grabbing, does the Trump administration do anything but?😑
