MLMM Saturday Mix

At times the world seems too heavy

Our personal burdens may seem light

That’s when to take a giant breath

And think what a tiny speck we are

On earth that will keep spinning and

The universe will go on without us.

Fandango’s Flashback Friday 2-12-21

MLMM Tale Weaver – Hope

Bright beauty among the grey pavement is a hopeful sign, an inspiration to all those who step around it, admiring its tenacity. Only a few will tromp on it, refuse to acknowledge its existence as they hurriedly travel to an unwanted destination.

I see this flower as a sign of how the world can be, should strive to be, how we all, no matter what our circumstances would be, if only we stopped a minute or two in our life and just thought.

Think of the flower, the strength it took to achieve growth at all, and a bright, beautiful bloom? That’s how life should be, shouldn’t it? Isn’t there a minute in your day when you can just stop, think of who you want to be, or what want to accomplish, and how you can bloom?

MLMM First Line Friday 2-12-21 – The Visit

No harm expected as I curled up in front of the fireplace, warming myself to keep out the chill. I was almost asleep when startled by a knock at my door. Who would be out on a night like this? You couldn’t see three feet ahead of you!

I felt I should answer even though it was past midnight and I was alone, no lights on the street, no car parked near my door, but I opened the door anyway.

Surprisingly, a small in stature old woman was standing there, obviously frozen to the bone, teeth chattering as she asked to come in. How could I refuse? But that is exactly what I should have done.

I slowly guided her to sit by the fire and as she warmed and removed the ragged layer of overcoat, I started feeling uneasy. As I mentioned, I was alone, no one expected to visit soon, and wondered at my carelessness helping a stranger. I hurried to the kitchen to prepare hot tea for her and checked my cell was working, only to find it was blinking with a “no signal” message.

Anxiety building up but I offered the beverage to her cold wrinkled fingers. I took another look at her appearance as she sat there, the fire glow illuminating her features. She seemed younger than I had first thought and her dark eyes shone bright. She glanced up at me with such a casualness it felt as if she knew me well.

That alone was a frightening experience as she seemed too comfortable and settled back in the chair as an old friend might. I nervously drank my own cup of tea as my lip quivered a bit. What is happening I queried that this feeling of trepidation creeps up my neck.

I turned to the side and outside it seemed it was getting darker by the minute. My electricity gave out and only the fireplace provided vision. That was a blessing as I think of it now, only partially seeing the transformation occurring. Maybe it was a few seconds, possibly an hour, but the old woman changed and took in a younger appearance similar to my own.

I suddenly laughed, the kind of high pitched sound one makes before true hysteria sets in. Then just as quickly I must have drifted off to sleep because I have no recollection of the woman leaving my home. When I woke she was gone, the tea was cold and the fire had died out.

I gathered more wood into the ashes and restarted the flames to warm me once again. The electricity had come back on and my cell phone rang with a text from my mother. Looking outside the fog had lifted and the sun was peeking through. I realized I had a bad dream and laughed it off, until.

The shower was welcomingly hot and refreshing. I felt rejuvenated and dried off quickly. I went to brush my teeth and glanced in the mirror. A faint but jagged noticeable scar along the right side of my face looked back at me.

In case you missed it:

We will not forget from Jill @https://jilldennison.com/2021/02/12/we-will-not-forget/

In case you didn’t notice, there is a trial of some importance taking place this week in Washington, D.C.  Now, I used to watch Perry Mason, and a number of other courtroom dramas, the names of which elude me at the moment, so I have an idea how a trial is supposed to be conducted, how lawyers, defendants, and jurors are supposed to act, but this trial is like nothing I have ever seen before.

First, the defendant is nowhere to be seen.  He decided that it was too cold up north to leave his Florida resort, and besides, he had a golf game scheduled for yesterday.  But what really blows my mind is the jurors!  Have you ever seen a trial where the jurors, rather than being bothered with listening to the evidence being presented by the prosecution, got up and walked around, texted on their phones … about breast milk, for some strange reason?

Worse yet, can you imagine a murder trial where three of the jurors have a closed-door session with the defense attorneys???  NO, just NO … this is illegal, immoral, unconscionable, and a number of other adjectives I can think of once the steam stops coming out of my ears!

House impeachment managers, the prosecution, were presenting compelling evidence of the attack on Congress and the Capitol and the defendant’s involvement in said attack on Wednesday afternoon, but Ted Cruz and several other Republican senators were apparently bored watching themselves narrowly escape the violence on January 6thand instead sought other distractions, such as shuffling papers, or playing on their cell phones like Teddy was doing.

Under absolutely no circumstances, in a trial, are the lawyers on either side allowed to meet in private with jurors.  That is called tampering with the jury, it is illegal.  Period.  No ifs, ands, or buts.  Trump’s legal team and the three Republican senators, Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham, and Mike Lee are all in violation of the law for their little tête-à-tête .  They are attempting to turn this trial into a sham, but all they are doing is further destroying their reputations and that of the Republican Party, for they are proving with every passing minute that there is no collective conscience.  The Republican Party has decided that they don’t need to represent the will of the people, but instead will do whatever they damn well please, and force us to continue to pay their salaries.

“We were discussing their legal strategy and sharing our thoughts,” said Cruz.  No, jackass … you are not a member of the legal team … you are the jury!  Your job is to listen to both sides and decide which has merit, not collude with one side against the other.  You are the damn jurors in this case!  In a normal trial, the judge would at this point likely declare a mistrial and schedule a new trial, else dismiss the jurors and call for a new selection.  But this is an impeachment trial and apparently the Republicans in Congress are allowed to make and break the rules with impunity. Imagine if the Democrats tried that!

The public has heard the evidence, and while the corruption is so rampant in the Republican Party that the senators will allow a conman, a man guilty of plotting murder free to incite further violence, to kill again, We the People know that he is guilty.  We weren’t playing on our cell phones while the evidence was being presented, and we did not collude with the lawyers for the defense.  We saw the evidence, we know Donald Trump is guilty, and we will never again trust him or those senators who refused to perform their duty, to uphold their oaths.  We Will Not Forget. Ever.

Be Mine❣️

Take a little swim in the snow

Make twin angels in the white glow

No need for Valentine cupidity

You can show your love validity

Remember it’s “the thought that counts”

While freezing temperatures mount

Afterwards a fire would be nice

Possibly an Irish coffee will entice

Along with a covering just for two

Or spend lots of money, up to you.

THE FASTEST NUN IN THE WEST….

This is Hilarious!

Vinny's avatarLife is a rusty rollercoaster

How were your school days? Good? Bad?….Well I don’t know who said school days are the best days of your life but what an idiot! And they definitely didn’t go to my school…..

Nowadays teachers and pupils are almost friends the way they are with each other. Back in the 70s when corporal punishment ruled it was very different, especially in a Catholic school run by priests. ‘Spare the rod ruin the child’ should have been the motto at that place. The cane or the slipper, depending on the teachers mood. Marist College Catholic School For Boys …. No girls…. Not great for thirteen year old lads with testosterone starting to rage. Luckily for us at the other end of a very long street stood St Mary’s Catholic School For Girls. Never the two should meet, unless you wanted eternal damnation.

It’s a funny thing when you’re Thirteen. When someone…

One Liner Wednesday 2-10-21

Have you ever been driving on an icy rut filled winter dirt road and have your wet boot slip off the brake pedal? It’s a whole new experience in driving and actually quite exciting, especially when there’s a large drop on the right side of that road.
