The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Nov. 1, 2025

Halloween vibes are circling young ones
Bicycling trips to graves increasing
Curiosity in minds starts its run
Ghosts and goblins arises not ceasing
Concerned parents start their ignored pleading
Monsters that have been patiently waiting
Use alluring spells constantly baiting
Children to facilitate monstrous acts
Evil characters are contemplating
But silliness covers up evil facts.

Poetry Form: Dizain

You can tell if someoneâs on the edge, on a ledge, seeking direction. Family and friends will try to help not realizing how close to it you are, how many times you shut yourself in the bathroom to soften your cries. They think they know you, and on the outside you seem fine. But I know that look, that hesitant smile, of being on the edge.

Word Prompts

The marksman started to drool thinking of the slippers and reward after ridding the world of this interloper. The ruby slippers were rightfully his and he had caught this crook on video stealing them. Lining up the criminalâs head in the portal, gleefully pulled the trigger.

Can You Tell A Story In…

lightning streaks show shapes
thunder raps on shutters tied
cracks in blinds distort
whispering winds speak horrors
storming all on Hallows Eve
***
smoke
foggy
frightening
unfamiliar
surrounding my form
eerie feelings hover
nightmare now reality
drifting across the bedroom floor
my feet never touching the surface
âSmoke, foggy, frightening unfamiliarâ.

Wea’ve Written Weekly – a poetry prompt!

Three blind mice or holiday kings
Whoever dressed them needs a lesson
Costumes are meant as childrenâs things
Humor on dogs heeds to lessen
The evil scary part of the night.
Funny dogs dressed as ghosts
Never cause anyone a fright
Licking your hands, the friendly milquetoasts
A nice try for the costume tests
While tired pups lay down and rest.
Whatâs that you hear?
A witchâs scream?
Sheâs falling off her broomstick beam?
Now thereâs a sight Iâd like to see
Finally a fright on Hallowâs Eve!

Monday Poetry Prompt: Halloween

He thinks itâs only a trick. I think Iâll teach him a lesson.
âWanna see me pull a rabbit out of my hat?â The magician tiredly reveals the empty hat. The rabbit is not in the secret box, he left the stage.
What goes around comes around.

#TankaTuesday Poetry Challenge No. 36, Tan-Ku, 10/28/25

School Shooting
This is no trick or treat
that is not whatâs moving these small feet,
itâs grief, itâs thinking hard
on all of the friends theyâve lost in the schoolyard.
The faces are solemn,
their hearts cry out.
They cannot even imagine what this is all about.
Even the parents look subdued
gathering, in protests they never act rude,
the sidewalk regulars stay out-of-the-way
because maybe they didnât have a child there that day.
A shock to these parents and children alike.
They do not realize the governmentâs spite.
To make new laws that prevent guns
In the presence of all of these little ones,
we plead, we vote, we protest and march
but all of this doesnât move the oligarch
he cares not what happens in small towns or schools
While he secretly makes up new laws and rules.
