Fandango’s Story Starter

This week’s Story Starter teaser is: SHE THOUGHT SHE HEARD HIS VOICE IN THE HALLWAY OUTSIDE OF HER APARTMENT, SO SHE IMMEDIATELY…rushed into the kitchen and hid all of her freshly baked goodies in the freezer. She heard him sniffing at her door and if she had to let him in he would be eating and lounging around all day. Not today buddy, she thought.

Simply Six Minutes

The path is clear he thought, as he once again stepped into a new school in a new town. All I have to do is blend in. He chuckled quietly at that thought because he knew this would be just like all the schools and all the other towns. They would stay a while, try to get jobs, try to fit in for the thousandth time. It was almost funny if you didn’t live it. He adjusted the heavy backpack, chosen to resemble the other kids’ packs and stepped inside the school entryway. At first it all seemed normal and maybe this time, just maybe, it would be. He looked into the empty hall, class must have already started because it was empty. Then he saw the floor and realized, no, this was not going to be different or new, and walked forward anyway.

Publicity

“And how is my little dumpling tonight” he asked, lighting the candles to illuminate the teacup he had handed her, ready for the toast to her resolution to stop the sad voyage into another drunken tirade. His celebrity was at stake. She couldn’t seem to visualize how her signature behavior when caught in these states of embarrassment diminished his value as a commodity in the world of film.

dVerse Poets Haibun

This week, I would like you to write about your feelings towards this New Year and/or what you do in the first few days of January. Aim to write no more than three short, tight paragraphs, followed by a traditional haiku that includes reference to the season.

As every new year begins, traditions of new feelings emerge and the world is refreshed while the past recedes.

cold winds blow dark thoughts

white snow falls, covering black

old graves need new stones
