Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt

PROPOSAL
“Not exactly a Hallmark moment, eh, James?”
“What did you expect? Hearts and flowers, maybe some Russell Stover chocolates— your favorites—the all cream box? Face it Michelle, you set your expectations way too high. Joe is just an ordinary fella, watches sports on tv, likes a nice cold beer and barbecue. There isn’t a facetious bone in his body. Take him or leave him!”

SoCS 9-9-23

We’ll mostly it has been a great day! I got to sleep in, my daughter took me out to lunch and bought me some Palisade Peaches. It was a nice pick me up after having a sign stolen from my patio. It was only up for about a few hours. At least I hope a point was made…it said no peeing or pooping here. I contemplated writing a note and putting it up in the lobby saying, “whoever removed my property owes me $12.00” but know it wouldn’t do any good. It seems people are more rude these days than ever and feel free to say or do anything they want at all times. I suppose every generation says “the world is going to hell in a hand basket” and I’m not even sure why you would need a hand basket? Whatever, hope you have a good weekend and no gross visitations.

MLMM Saturday Mix – Instincts

Story starter:

Bella barked furiously, as simultaneously, as knock rapped at the front door…and of course I knew who it was. He called earlier that night to say he would be coming and even though I didn’t have time to pack yet, I was ready. Bella knew it too. She hated when I left even for a weekend. And…she hated him. She was always watching him and never offered herself to be patted. It was if she saw something I didn’t and I should heed her instincts. I grabbed a few things as he seemed anxious to hurry out. Doing so I forgot my cel phone.

The trip to the lakeside cabin was not as long as I thought and we arrived at ten. He seemed quiet and stirred up the fire he immediately made and I set out a few snacks I had brought. I was ready for an evening of romance.

About midnight, he started to pace and I thought, oh no, he’s brought me here to break up. He went to the window, parted the curtains to reveal a huge harvest moon. He turned back to me and changed. I write changed here, as a mild report, but what really happened is indescribable. At first it was his eyes, then his body and last, his face, twisting into a lupine shape, always keeping red eyes on me. I tripped back onto the sofa, incredible, but not actually fearful, which is a mystery even to myself. He came towards me slowly, hesitantly and his eyes softened. He reached out a paw since he was now a full wolf shape and I took it. He then laid down at my feet and that is how we spent the rest of the night.

The morning light revealed him lying there, still, but now human again. He looked up and said softly, “this is why Bella hates me. I had to show you, otherwise you would not have believed me. I mean you no harm, but this is the real me when the full moon comes. I’ll never hurt you but want you to know the truth.”

I sat down beside him and accepted the life we would live.

Given the current climate of the world’s problems which we all wish could be solved by a flick of someone’s or something’s magic wand, we try our best to cope. Many people cope in the simplicity of gardening.

A flower garden as a child was a coping of sorts, but the larger vegetable garden was spectacular. Pulling out a fresh carrot to wipe off on your jeans and devour on the spot is coping with added satisfaction.

I suggest that gardening is a worthy task that other rewards cannot achieve. Provisions sitting on your dinner table or the scent of a peony blossom filling the home can bring a feeling of contentment, accomplishment and joy. Maybe gardening is the plausible answer, keeping hands and minds busy without ever present technology. I’d like, too, to plant the sweet alyssum that smells like honey and peace.

Prosery: When it comes to Katherine Riegel

3TC+ Crazy Couture

The neophyte model shyly peeked out of the draped curtain to assess the vibe of the audience—a coterie of specialized high priced store owners. Every woman and man seated could be a fashion plate for the next issue of “Vogue”. As the emcee stepped onto the platform to give his welcoming speech, the camera flashes could have made you blind!

Your Daily Word Prompt – #Coterie- #YDWordPrompt September 7 2023

Excerpt from Robert Reich

NO LABELS, NO FABLES, NO THIRD-PARTY BETRAYALS

“If Trump wins the GOP nomination for president, as seems highly likely despite (or because of) his coming trials, all Americans who believe in democracy must unite behind Joe Biden — to ensure that Trump, in the words of then-Rep. Liz Cheney, “never again gets anywhere near the Oval Office.”

Entering the unusual house with more than odd occupants, feeling confident which quickly subsided,

There was a sight feeling of destiny as his stiffly minded consciousness started to melt. What was this place and why did he feel compelled to visit?

Creatures as yet unknown to him, curiously eyed the newcomer, yet he felt somehow already known.

Fantasy beckons him, he whose life resembles an unending assembly line, is now experiencing something unusual, something enticing and excitingly new.

Should he turn away or let the spirit of the house win him over, or can it? Linus steps inside and may find adventure or disappointment, but indeed a challenge and we all need challenges in life.

I have no idea if this is what you are looking for in the prompt. The book I refer to is “The House in the Cerulean Sea” by T.J. Klune.

Simply Six Minutes

“Oh Pearl, did you hear? Junie just found out she’s getting a baby brother! Oh you bet she is, jealous already! And Roger, is completely potty trained, can you believe it? I can’t see that happening anytime soon for me—I heard mommy saying I’m a late starter. Daddy and mommy are going out again tonight. You know what that means—Maura the horror is coming to babysit. Remember last time when I woke up to see her just standing and staring at me in my crib? Oh, gotta go, mom’s coming and she doesn’t let me use the phone.
