A simple bouquet from the rock garden, proof that beauty can emerge from roughness. Hesitating to grab it, but had nothing else to offer. Only this morning was he free. Ten years away, he wondered if her letters were true. Would she still love the arrogant protester ending up in jail for his views? Of course he had mellowed, it was necessary in that horrible space. He lived only for her words, written in tear stained script. He also wept as he read them. Now he was going to surprise her. He clutched the flowers and knocked on her door.

The Writer’s Workshop

***

A shot in the dark was heard by the town

Everyone cowed as the source was unknown

Only a few times were guns ever used

The neighbors looked out, confused

Was that Jimmy, they asked each other?

No, I think it was his brother…

John and Jimmy were rascals at best

Their constant antics were never at rest

John came out running on the street

Had no clothes on, but boots on his feet

Jimmy was chasing him, gun in his fist

Finding his wife with John “in the midst”

I should end this story, it’s too intense

As we find John hiding by a fence

Neighbors witnessed the brotherly row

And heard again the gun going pow

This was the last of Jimmy’s actions

Sadly John could have no reaction

A warning I tell you from the heart

Keep your cheating brother and wife apart.

Witnessing the sad little battle between the furry cheeky kittens and the tiny pup, him trying to push her away from her sweet siblings, I couldn’t help but chuckle. The thick puppy snout trying to banish them all from the water bowl caused a big mess. The mother cat pulled the weak puppy away and let her kittens take over the bowl. Of course she strode away, not a guilty feeling shown.
