Here are the prompts for this week’s Writer’s Workshop:

  1. Write a post based on the word radio.
  2. Write a post in exactly 11 sentences.
  3. Tell us why you’re overjoyed that “the one that got away” got away.
  4. Write a list of 5 or 10 sentences that begin with the words “no one ever asked me,” then, write about one of them in detail, or use them all in a poem, or use several in a personal description of yourself.

I chose number four since I’m in hospital with broken leg pain and might as well explore other uncomfortable feelings:

No one ever asked me if I was happy. At first I thought I was. I thought my dream came true. No one ever asked, therefore I accepted I was. Perfection was my goal, mostly achieving it while forgetting about the dream part. And for a time it worked.

Not exactly a slide, more of a twist.  My legs tangled but nobody died.Two spiral fractures so eyes began to mist cause I slipped out of my wheelchair two days before. After the injured tailbone it must have caused more because going from chair to chair later I ended up on the floor. A hospital stay for quite a long time and longer rehab down the line. No weight on the leg for at least six weeks, the thought of that gives me the creeps.

I saw this quote about responsibility and I disagree with it. Sure, for most things you are responsible for your actions but sometimes fate sends you a wakeup call even when you are self aware.

Maybe my personal accountability is screwed but I don’t think anyone has complete control of their destiny,😵‍💫

Over the Top Tuesday

Joe was racing against time obviously, but so were other political contestants. The election was the next day and the GOP chose Joe, their strongest person, to compete. Joe was the best, according to Joe, and that bravado served him well. He was equipped with a halberd, provided at no cost from the NRA. The weapon was heavily encrusted with political diatribes and cartoons, Trump’s scrawled signature, a drawing of MTG wearing a MAGA hat and even a bit of unholy water anointed by Putin himself. Surely it would be the perfect weapon to save earth. As Joe leaped from one timepiece to another, he heard cheers in his earbud, fed from the Mar-a-Lago broadcast. He felt back on his side, making sure the satchel holding a parachute was still attached. As soon as he drew close he brandished the halberd and the Democratic candidate was toast. Joe flipped open the satchel, put on the parachute and jumped to the safety of the Florida coast. Trump had always bragged he would rule and now he succeeded.

The Sunday Whirl

His holiness in ancient rumpled robes, his facial bones stretch his thin wrinkled skin…walks slowly toward the dais. The candles flicker from yellow to gold to amber as the private chambers darken in evening light. He glances up to give reverence to the three figures above his gilded chair and thought of his beginnings as a lowly parish priest and the invisible spiral of success he now enjoyed. Even revered and respected, he remembers the disreputable seeds of years of compromised decisions, and weeps with regret.
