Yep, it’s here, high winds, freezing cold and snow

Garage your car so you won’t need a tow

The weather vane is spinning around

White fluffiness covers the ground

Start a fire to keep you warm

Around the warmth we will swarm

Hot chocolate and country beef stew

Later snowball fights might ensue

If you venture out as kids will do

Don’t forget ear muffs and a heavy scarf too.

The night was chilled and grandma’s goosedown quilt didn’t seem to be enough to keep Charlie’s mind from imagining the worst. These feelings were probably generated from the popcorn and cola he had consumed too close to bedtime, but eerie noises seemed to be coming from the wall. He called out to his grandma.

Charlie’s grandma came into the room to comfort him, saying, “there is nothing behind the wall except a space where the wind whistles”.

Charlie thought about it for a minute and asked his grandma, “what’s in the space? Is it a ghost or maybe a cat?”

Grandma smiled and told Charlie, “There’s nothing. Just an empty space between two walls where the wind likes to play. You know how you like to play and run in the wind? Well, the wind likes to play, too.”

FFFC#91

Everything went according to plan. She could now sit back and finish watching a favorite Netflix series, “Suzy, PI”. Julie always wanted to be a private investigator, live the life as her TV heroine in a rundown office with peeling paint and sleazy clients, and started out with nothing.

Now feeling she accomplished her goal by setting three accused murderers free with her talents in finding the “truth”, was satisfied she had chosen the right profession. The upgraded office atmosphere was all thanks to her efforts, and a sizable reward from Sammy the Snake.

Aftermath

“It was a triumph” Bill yelled as he stood near the famous statue of Abraham Lincoln. His speech now lost in the hysterical aftermath of supporters of the opposite party, who brandished weapons at the gathering.

“America will be a democracy again”, Bill offered, but his message was being overshadowed by violent protesters, waving the flag they presented as their proof he was wrong.

It was a tough situation and fearing for Bill’s welfare, he was escorted to a safer location.

FOWC with Fandango — Hysterical

The Day After

“It’s party time!” Joe started dancing around the table as he adjusted every delicious tidbit carefully to comprise an American flag. He was sure to lure the company’s Trump supporters with his artful array of hors d’oeuvres. He didn’t stop at the flag.

The quantity of red, white and blue continued with strawberry, blueberry and apple salad, a red, white and blue layered jello salad, blue corn chips with red salsa, blueberry cranberry muffins and more. Joe wanted everyone’s taste satisfied. Decorations of patriotic colored star glitter surrounded the food items.

Joe’s secretary was in awe, but cautioned him on going overboard. She also felt like celebrating but thought the Trump fans might think he was trying to berate them with his enthusiasm.

As people started joining Joe in the conference room, they gobbled up the festive fare. Joe thought the “all nighters” of election result watching must have whetted their appetite.

New Vision

In an act of joy, her family put away the protest signs. They owed it to their new leader who realized rural areas needed to be heard also. In his campaign, his team traveled back to his hometown, and made promises. The town hopes they will be kept, to set up a progressive plan, and passing new referendums to stop injustice. The power of a positive speech, lifting the soul of people with hope, not condescension, was what they were longing to hear. Those promises, even if a fraction were accomplished, would be a welcomed turn in a needy world.

Sammiscribbles Weekend Writing Prompt 11-7-20

Not having much in the way of wealth

If you’re talking about money

Enough to have a good living

In the land of milk and honey

I’m also blessed with family

I write it here a lot

But everything material–

You’re welcome to what I’ve got.

I have two storage lockers, one quite far away

I need to look inside it

Maybe on a summer day

I’m sure the many items I saved, thinking I’d bequeath

Are probably too tattered, but the love is underneath.
