“A white sport coat and a pink carnation” was playing in the background. The restaurant was average but the food delicious. I asked the chef for the specials of the night.

A first date, wanting to impress on a limited budget, I planned ahead. In cooperation with my waiter friend, he suggested the three specials that I could afford. She seemed happy with that so when served, I started to relax. Luckily she was a teetotaler so no added beverages to pay for.

You may think I was acting on the cheap, and I guess I was, but she was impressed nevertheless. Any man worth his salt would try to do his best even if it takes a little conniving.

It may seem there’s no crusade waiting to happen around the corner, no light at the end of this tunnel, no suspension of heartbreak for the loved ones perished in the last two years. Landmark brutality and false prophets have their foot on the pedal, trying to gorgonize their beliefs upon the ignorant. We will turn the page. We will ring the bells of hope and release their sound on the wind. The vicinage of the determined few will overpower the mendacious mob thinking they’re lucky. We shall overcome.
