A2Z 14

N for nguruvilu originating from the ethnic religion of the Mapuche, found in Chile. It is a river-dwelling creature and looks much like a strange fox, with a long body, similar to a snake, and a long tail with fingernails that it uses like claws. It’s a dangerous water-being beast and the cause of dangerous whirlpools which kill people who try to cross rivers. The creatures make the water shallow on either ford, to encourage people to try to cross it making it seem safe. However, the only safe way of crossing a river with a nguruvilu is by boat.

Six Sentence Story

“Just a second” which is what she seemed to always say lately. I held the phone close by my ear just in case it was going to be that short a time. She started this a month ago and I think our relationship and communication is dwindling. I didn’t want it to end and started initiating calls if only to hear her voice. Patiently waiting once again, but this time hearing conversation and laughter in the background, I sighed. It was over.

Classic Song Beginnings

Robert Plant wrote the lyrics, which were a response to critics who claimed their previous album, Led Zeppelin III, wasn’t really rock and roll. Led Zeppelin III had more of an acoustic folk sound, and Plant wanted to prove they could still rock out.

This was the first Led Zeppelin song used in a commercial. Cadillac used it to kick off a new advertising campaign in 2002 with the tagline “Breakthrough.” The company was going for a hip, new image, since their audience was slowly dying off. The spots aired for the first time on the Super Bowl, and sales rose 16% the next year.

Sad Tale

The inexperienced equestrian rode into the bog soil, profuse in the woods; the rider was not familiar with the area. Her horse became instantly stuck in the mud. No matter the strength of muscle in the horse’s legs, she was mired until a crane was able to lift her. In the meantime a veterinarian had been summoned to sedate her so she wouldn’t damage herself further.

The Sunday Whirl

Wandering by the stream, trying to block the morose dreams from the night before, Marie noticed skeletons of fish bones on the shoreline. She looked around suspiciously thinking a dangerous predator might be nearby hoping for the promise of more prey than a defenseless fish. She sank down on her knees and listened to the call of life around her. The bones reminded her that all things in the world are subject to suffering.
