TLT/Only 100 Words

This was the ultimate disrespect! After ten years as the Cubs’ catcher, he was disgraced. He was kicked off the field for using a long string of epithets against the umpire. After getting kicked out, found his car had its tires slashed in the lot for players’ vehicles. He was going home, didn’t bother to change and luckily had enough pocket money to take the bus.

Fandango’s Story Starter – No Regrets?

This week’s Story Starter teaser is: AS KEVIN WAS BOARDING THE BUS, HE KNEW HE WAS HEADING BACK TO THE ONE PLACE HE HOPED HE’D NEVER HAVE TO SEE AGAIN. Hesitating at the bus ladder he looked back again to his two teenaged children. He was doing this in part to show a good example.

Kevin and his father had no real relationship, but now he was expected to show up at the funeral. He had visited his father in the hospital a few months prior—also a visit to appease his sisters. A horrid phone conversation between Kevin and his dad had taken place a week ago and two days later his father was dead. His father had treated his favorite sister badly and Kevin had called to ask what his dad was thinking, treating her that way.

The phone call ended bitterly and now he thought making this trip was a penance of sorts. He was picked up at the bus station after a tiring long ride. He joined his sister to enter the funeral home. Once he saw the flower covered casket, he felt faint, finding it hard to breathe. He sat down by his siblings and listened to a flowery made up version of his father’s life. Kevin thought, “I do feel some sadness but think coming back for this was a mistake.”

Who looks into the mirror
Seeing their true self—
Only the delighted child
A teenager finds flaws themselves
Their supposed friends’ influences critical
Adults choose not to see behind their face
Seeing only the outward beauty they crave
A reflection of their internal desire

Inevitable

“Have a look”, Joe said to his wife. “It won’t be long before the symbol of America as a safe welcoming place will be gone forever.”
“Thanks to the climate change deniers and the new administration”, Sue replied. “Too bad they acted the way they did, now we are all paying for it!”

  1. Children aside, do you celebrate your birthday/anniversary or is it just a normal day for you? The fam usually does something for me.
  2. Do/did you always give your child a birthday party when they were young? Yes always.
  3. Would you prefer to give your child a party, or take them and a few friends on a special outing? We’ve done both.
  4. If your child was born on Christmas Day (or a few days either side of the 25th), did they have a ‘half birthday’ in June, two presents/celebrations, or something else? One of my granddaughters was born on 12/23 so I send her bday early and Christmas on time.

Gratitude. I am grateful that regular soccer is over and new sessions outside of high school begin.
