24 Seasons Syllabic Poetry Challenge, No. 31, 4/23/24, Part I, Grain Rain (April 19 – May 4) Koku 穀雨
This week’s Story Starter teaser is:
As much as Tim had tried to ignore it, he couldn’t deny it any longer. They were just too big! Too damn big and what was he thinking anyway? She’d never go for a guy with big feet! She was a delicate small dancer and he was a big oaf. This isn’t beauty and the beast he thought, there’s just no way she’ll give me a second look. At that moment, Miss Julie Davenport walked up to him and asked him to dance. He was at the Sadie Hawkins dance at the local high school and standing on the side with a bunch of other boys. PROMPT WORD: TONIC
I think it was the tonic, my mind’s gone supersonic. Or maybe ‘twas the shaman’s brew; I only drank one or two. Promises of a cure for stress, ‘cause my life has been a mess, I went into a shaman’s tent, where all my troubles I did vent. I was served drinks to cure my ills which provided me with curious chills. Then my body was moving wildly, no longer sad and sitting idly, started jouncing and couldn’t stop, but the sadness, it did stop. Now I’m finally at my ease, don’t know about their expertise, but all the melancholy gone, no longer feel so withdrawn. You never know what makes a cure, the shaman’s drink may not endure, but for now a normal life’s secured.

We specks with our feet planted on this big beautiful blue ball, never realizing how privileged we are, and treating this environment as if it will last forever, are naive.

our lovely surround
our children deserve better
than to suffer our mistakes
