The Writer’s Workshop

***

I chose the easy one, number three:

When I grocery shop I have a few specific brands I prefer on some things. One is paper towels. I buy a Viva single roll cloth like towels and it lasts at least a month. I use cloth rags, napkins, etc so try to keep paper usage small. Canned fruit or veggies I like Del Monte. Other canned or bottled sauces, etc I can use generic. Kleenex, Gain detergent, Cascade, and Aveeno facial products, Cerave lotion, Herbal Essence shampoo, just to name a few. Most generic brands are just fine for me. I am allergic to certain lotions, etc so have to choose what works with my skin. Cosmetics for eyes I can use are hard to find. They claim to be hyper allergenic but…

So ends a boring response to the prompt. Maybe I should have chosen number one, because the last couple of weeks my experience would cause a tirade for a response🙄😂

MLMM Wordle – True Story

***

The banging noise of the alarm on the wall, red light color flashing and the fear was palpable. A sudden spark of nervous trust disappearing in what was supposed to be a safe environment, as the teacher sent everyone to the corner behind a half wall in the weight room. He told the students not to use their cell phones but knew some would, panicked, and not to say anything about where they were located in the school. He went to lock the room door, put a piece of heavy furniture in front of it and then tried to comfort his class. My granddaughter thought it was touching that he stood by the side of the door the entire time. She felt pride for him as he talked trying to reassure and calm the students.

**True story happened this morning as a person called on numerous suicide hotlines saying there was an active shooter in the school. High schools and junior high schools were called. Our school saw the state police arrive in two minutes, fire engines, ambulance and police all followed. She’s a strong young woman and her mother and I tried to dissipate some nerves after she was released by saying, at least you had weapons being in the weight room…I know not really funny. How can you defend yourself against an automatic weapon? And when you cast your votes tomorrow, think about who likes guns, does not want to control them, and who receives lots of money from the NRA to keep them available.

Here are this week’s questions:

1.  Do you like fireworks? Love them!

2.  Do you think fireworks should only be used by professionals? Yes!

3.  Do you think today’s fireworks are value for money? We just go to the park and watch for free.

4.  What is your favourite and least favourite firework? My favorites are the ones that go slowly down light raining flowers. My least favorites are the loud boom and no lights.

Gratitude: I have a lot to be grateful for this week! Spent quality time with a friend and family and a helpful doctor visit.☺️

Election Comic Relief

Claytoonz made me laugh today which was a good thing considering I had just spent two hours trying to get a website to accept my password. The paragraph is written by Clay Jones after the news of PNUT the squirrel and his companion, a raccoon when both had to be euthanized…see the story on the news or here: https://claytoonz.com/2024/11/04/candidate-nucketfutz/

Clay wrote: “This is very sad, right? Of course, it is. But then, MAGAts glommed onto the story and milked it as if the squirrel had been raped by a Venezuelan immigrant. Do not be surprised if Trump isn’t in a pet cemetery for a photo-op by the end of the day with the squirrel’s family.”

And yes I think it’s funny and yes I would not be surprised to see that photo op.😂

dVerse Poets – Prosery

***

Walking the leaf-strewn path, the sounds of one season disintegrating under my feet; above I feel the feathery white flakes out of the ninth-month midnight. It’s an early winter surprise, but I take joy in the chill. A fresh white blanket covers my western view this morning, and the ranch animals will be hard to wake. Cold breezes greet me and I don my well-worn parka that’s seen better days. Multiple baby goats yanked at the nylon bringing to view the downy lining and there are stains of cows’ cud on the sleeves, but it’s still warm. I greet the horses and stroke their warm muzzles and long necks. They always like reassurance in the morning. Only chickens and ducks are noisy demanders for their breakfast. Ranching is the only life for me, relaxing and rewarding.

“It was a sad day, I think it was back in 2024? Maybe earlier? My old brain takes a while figuring numbers lately, but I think it was November ‘24…yup hundreds of ‘em, just jumped right out of the boats and sank under the water, most drowned of course…that river was known for its maneater fish, maybe piranha? I think that was it…”.
“Oh my gosh great grandpa, why would they do that?”
“It was the election results, you know, back when Trump got re-elected? The whole world turned crazy and some I guess thought it was their only choice.”

PROMPT WORD:  WEDGE

She thought it would be a bridge. Instead it served as a wedge. Relationships were supposed to be give and take. This was her attempt to give of herself and her ideas. He listened a bit and then walked out. He never realized she was really a Republican.
