If eating dinner we’d hurry and dash

Sit down by the tv and watch “Mash”!

The colonel a favorite, I’m sure you’ll agree

But Hawkeye and BJ loved capriciously

Then there was Frank, an exasperating soul

Even Winchester could not fill that role

Houlihan, oh of course can’t forget

She flirted with most that she met

Secretly meeting Frank, I ask why?

Surely a different man she’d eye

But Radar O’Reilly and Father Mulcahy

Took my heart each episode daily.

I think if you’re looking for humor and pathos

You should try “Mash” for some meaningful chaos.

Writing Prompts – Gifts

***

I need no fancy dress

No rose or white wine

I have gifts aplenty

But I could wait in line

At a gift shop or bazaar

Spying gifts from near and far

Or spend time in a quiet nook

Trying to find the perfect book

But like many songs proclaim

I can skip the shopping game

The greatest gifts I find

Are the family kind.

The Prank

“Everybody is doing it!” exclaimed Jerry, who was always up for a challenge. “Cmon it’ll be fun! Mike already jumped in so dude, we’ve gotta do it!”

“Are you kiddin’ me? I’m claustrophobic, I’d never survive!”

“Nah, it’s just like divin’ underwater in a pool, Joe. Cmon! Are you telling’ me you’re scared? You know Cathy’s gonna be there. You could impress her, dude!”

Joe thought about it and decided he might try it, especially if Cathy was there. The two guys approached the mud hole and saw several upside down pairs of shoes seemingly stuck in the mud. “Uh, Jerry, this doesn’t look good…where is everyone? Maybe they drowned!” Joe started pulling on a pair of sneakers just to realize there was no one attached to them. He panicked, “call 911, these guys may be stuck in this mud!”

Jerry was soon joined by Cathy and the rest of their crowd, all laughing. Joe was totally embarrassed.

“No apology, I guess”, the guard said as he replaced the sign over the entry exactly where it belonged, doing so in an overly precise manner hoping they would get the point. He was familiar with the young pranksters, and used to their tricks. Surprised by a bell’s chime indicating the master needed him, the guard went inside. The high black door frame was secured once again, but the visitors didn’t leave. They persisted with a hard knock, displacing the sign once again and summoning the guard. Halloween was long past, but the visitors persisted.
