Oh there he goes again, thinking he won’t change

I have tried to tell him you have to go with the main

Ever since the year 3000

When everything changed

The human body that he was

No longer remains.

I know it was hard to accept

But what am I to do?

I’m just his constant companion

To ease him through

I can’t help it if I am metal

I can’t help it if I am cold

I can’t help it if he hates it

That he is getting old

His body needs to adapt

Into a form like me

He’s resisting every minute

I can’t blame him, really

The old days when humans walked the Earth at will

Those are gone, and now we robots will be forever—still

It does seem heartbreaking at times

You know, I do have feelings some

But all of these future advantages

Will soon become

The norm for you humans

You just have to accept

That human bodies

Are basically inept.

  4. I love that you wrote from the point of view of a robot, Cheryl. Thankfully, we won’t be here in the year 3000. I love the possible despair in the lines:

    ‘I can’t help it if I am metal
    I can’t help it if I am cold
    I can’t help it if he hates it
    That he is getting old’

    and the way the robot says ‘I can’t blame him, really’.
